Items in need:

Band: Shriners Club of Hamilton "Oriental Band Unit"
Author: John McGragh
email: quick.draw@sympatico.ca

looking for: Information
details: Looking for the the proper oriental names for the costume parts that the Oriental band wears on parade. Namely; the head gear (triangular scarf and tribal band), shirt, pants, belt, outer sleeveless smock, and turned up toed shoes. I have been asked this question many times but only get confused replies! Here is a photo of our band on parade to easily identify the costume parts! I hope.

Items to offer:

Author: Martha Ann Atkins
email: mannatkins@aol.com
Offering: Musette
Details: My father played a Musette in the Mirza Temple Band in the 1950-1960's.( I am sure you know but Mirza Temple is in Pittsburg Kansas. My family lived in Fort Scott Kansas) I have his instrument which I would like to offer for sale. It is 14 1/2 inches long from the top of the double reed to the base of the brass bell. The bottom of the brass bell is 4 inches across. The musette is made of wood and has the 7 holes in the front and one in the back. It is in absolutely excellent condition. I played it recently and it still sounds great. I think these instruments are also called Chinese oboes but I am not certain. The brass bell has the word China stamped in the bell. Some where I have a picture of my father in full costume ready for a parade holding his musette. I could show you that photo and I can take a picture of this instrument so you can see what good condition it is in. I think it is time for me to part with this musette and I would be happy to talk to someone who would be interested. ( My father died in 1974 and there are probably very few who remember him. His name was Garland Atkins and he was also a Jester. Please write to me if you are interested, Thank you so much for considering my message. Martha
