Salaam, to all and I truly hope your summer went
well. This is my first of monthly articles that will be on our web page.
As we get prepared for the fall months, I hope all of our bands have
flourished. We at Al Kader have come off of our parade season and now
prepare for Jazz nights that we have each month as well as our upcoming
poinsettia sale.
I do hope all of our band members take special note and time to read the
inside cover of the upcoming Na Khabar. Your officers and past
presidents have spent a lot of time on addressing the problems with our
expenses, in relation to the wonderful magazine that we have. We all
have all come up with a workable solution and now would love to hear
from you, our members.
During the month of September, we have some Association meeting and
competitions:
4th VP David McCarthy and Past President Joe
Brewton will be attending Central States in Oklahoma, during the
weekend of September 4th.
September 23-26 I will be attending the WASOB Jamboree along with
4th VP David McCarthy, Sgt at Arms Scot Duncil, and Past Presidents
Norm Wald and Mike Hartup. I know at these events we will all have a
great time.
One new item that we are adding to our web page is
the position of Quartermaster. This will be filled by Don Baxter of Al
Kader. His job will be to locate, distribute and guide our bands in
finding instruments and uniforms. If you know of bands that have folded
or have a surplus of either, please refer to this new site on the web
and contact Don.
Along with the position of Quartermaster, you may notice some other
changes to our web page. With the ongoing work of David Glass, we have
added the help of JR Batesole from Moslah OB. We now have a great link
to our Facebook pages with lots of fun
pictures to see. I urge you all to send in your pictures from parades,
fundraisers and any other events your bands take part in. I do believe
the web page will be our best vehicle for information, to our bands, in
the future.
We also this month have a new band that formed in Tacoma, Washington. It
is from Afifi Shrine Center. This was a once large and very active band
and now with the help from Rory Johnson is again making music. They will
make their first performance at the WASOB Jamboree in Wilsonville,
Oregon. We all know, Rory as Megan Johnson’s father. I have a feeling
that Megan may be around to support them in their endeavors. This is the
first in our goal, of starting up five new bands this year. Good luck to
Afifi.
A word on a new fine that will be levied against anyone that steals,
acquires without consent, etc. either Norm Wold’s (Nile) fez or Jake
Flack’s (Khiva) cymbals. These two men have been great supporters of
ASOB and its Presidents for too long to have these crimes be perpetrated
against them. Those person(s) found to have done either of these acts
shall be "feeding the kitty" $50 to the Ladder of Smiles on behalf of
their band. I do hope this does not have to be done.
I will sign off now and please contact me with any questions you may
have or if you just want to talk.
